Kantha Embroidery or Kantha art work

Kantha is one of the oldest forms of embroidery that originated in India. Earlier the Kantha sarees were usually draped by the women of West Bengal as to protect themselves against the cold weather. Kantha work is done by simple running stitches. Motifs such as fish, birds, ducks, trees, mountain, boat, footprint, animals, mosque, ratha, kantha motifs are very few examples.

After a long time, I felt like, I need have some pastel shades and some art involved in it, guess what I got? mesmerizing 'kantha' sarees, these generally light weight, soft, minimal work, down to earth, not noticeable, yet sophisticated if someone who is looking for these specific features than 'Kantha saree' one will adore wearing it. As you can in my portrait, I am not wearing any additional statement necklace to look good, kantha work itself add's the charm, you need not have any additional embellishment to make it look better. One can accessorize it based on the need, as creatively is the limit for artist!

Six yards of connoisseur folk art, Madhubani
Touch of ancient beauty, a small town were colorful artists are born, in Madhubani district in the Indian state of Bihar, Madhubani. The word 'Madhuban' means 'forest of honey' from which Madhubani is derived. Madhubani art is also known by the name 'Mithila art', Madhubani painting/Mithila painting was traditionally created by the women of the Brahman, Dusadh and Kayastha communities in Mithila region in India and it is named after Madhubani district of Bihar which is where it originated, this painting as a form of wall art was practiced widely throughout the region. Madhubani painting being accorded the coveted GI(Geographical Indication) status.

Exploring Warli Art, the folk tales!
Warli or Varli are the indigenous tribe or adivasis, Warli tribe hailing from mountains, coastal regions in and around the borders of rural Thane district and Dhule district of Maharashtra and Gujarat states of India. The term Warli is derived from ‘warla’ or ‘varla’ meaning a piece of land. Originally hunters, the Warli tribe later settled down as tenders of agricultural lands. The Varlis are non-aryan tribes, who are firm believers of sun and moon. Practically, the Warlis never worshipped man-made idols. Warli people are a simple folk with simple beliefs that govern their lives. The language of communication with them is mostly in Marathi, Konkani, Sanskrit, Gujarati or Khandeshi Bhil.

The traditional Hand-loom Kasargode sarees are manufactured in this region, these Handwoven sarees is inexpensive and can be wearable daily. These traditional ethnic sarees are specially treasured and worn by every keralite during any traditional occasions and are known for 'quality', 'colour pattern on borders', 'durability' and 'traditional designs'. Kasaragod sarees are best known for cotton sarees of fine count like 60s, 80s, and 100s , recent versions have made available for a blend of artificial silk saree. Kasaragod sarees is registered and recognized under Geographical indication tag (GI tag), under the geographical indication Act- 1999. On the banks of holy river Ganga in Varanasi District, Uttar Pradesh state of North India, a spiritual city called Varanasi, this city is also called by the name Kashi, Benares and Banaras. Its a major religious hub, Hindus believe that death in the city will bring salvation, making it a major centre for pilgrimage. Kashi Vishwanath Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva is Among the twelve Jyotirlingas. A Banarasi saree is a saree made in Varanasi, these Banarasi sarees became more popular during the Mughal era. Its not a simple and easy tasks to weave these sarees, much of unity, team work is involved, atleast three craftsmen work together to make up one saree, ha that's passion.

Floating boats, taking a holy dip in 'Narmada river' and cleansing mind, body and soul, I feel rejuvenated, moving ahead to Omkareshwar(deity Shiva) temple, how blessed I'm. This is a religious town and beautiful city lies on the north bank of Narmada river, Maheshwar is a city in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh state, in central India. The word Maheshwar in Hindi means 'Great God'. People here speak Hindi and it's official language. The climatic conditions here, is hot dry summer and cool or relatively dry during winter. This beautiful city is known for it's finest handloom fabric. Maheshwar has been a centre of handloom weaving since the 5th century.

The oldest and largest city in Odisha is Sambalpur, it lies on the bank of Mahanadi river. Sambalpuri sarees are woven on a handloom, these sarees have awarded Geographical Indications(GI) tag as 'Sambalpuri Bandha Saree & Fabrics'. The official language of this place is sambalpuri, the localites of this place is called as Sambalpuriya. Sambalpuri sarees are produced in the Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Balangir district, Boudh District of Odisha. The hands behind these traditional masterpieces sarees are Bhulia weaving community and to weave one Sambalpuri saree it may take around three days to a fortnight.
