I remember and recollect my childhood memories, I was just nutty about cotton sarees and fabrics, not only for comfort but for simplicity. I always love to be seamless in the crowd! My passion grew regardless of the age for hand-loom sarees, today I'm here to share one more simple weave from Karnataka called Patteda Anchu handloom cotton saree.

Traditional hand-loom sarees from Karnataka are Ilkal sarees, Molakalmuru sarees in addition to it Patteda Anchu cotton saree which joins the loop, these simple weaves is from Gajendragarh village in Gadag District.

Presently Patteda anchu saree is woven in cotton medium, based on the color and designs they are sub-divided namely:

  • Patteda anchu plain cotton saree
  • Patteda anchu checks cotton saree

Patteda anchu saree what makes this simple saree so unique? Borders and check patterns with healthy color combinations which makes these saree appealing. It has slightly course cotton texture and broad border and very few ones have Ganga and Jamuna border as well. Impressive colors and combinations which are seen at present are Blue-Black, Black-Red, Magenta-Yellow, Purple-Yellow, Red-Mustard, Brown-Purple, Blue-Black, Green-Purple although it is limited addition of colors but all shades are just mind-blowing. Some sarees of these have plain weave and few others have checks. These traditional sarees are woven in kuni magga generally referred pit looms. Further I will be adding more details on this stay-tuned!

Fabric care/Maintenance for Patteda Anchu cotton saree
Do check out for specific care instructions on the garment tag once you purchase and follow the instructions carefully, it addition to it, here are a certain quick checklist

  • Recommended for dry clean
  • If washing at home recommended only to use cold water to wash the fabric, wash dark and light colored ones separately
  • Do not bleach or soak the fabric
  • Do not brush or lash a cotton saree
  • Do not wring or squeeze the saree
  • Use good quality, mild detergent to wash
  • Once wash cycle is done, dry the fabric in shade to prevent the color from fading
  • Never put naphthalene balls and other repellents in direct contact to these fabrics while storing
  • One can steam press and iron the fabric, in a medium-low heat
  • Use padded hangers to avoid wrinkling these sarees

Two main reasons why people go to Kanchipuram is firstly to Kanchi Kamakshi Amman temple to take blessings from her, which is the most important shakti peetha temples in India and secondly to SHOP SHOP and SHOP again for all the stunning bride, for a BIG fat Indian wedding. Kanchivaram is a traditional silk saree from south India and each and every house would have endless collections of these pattu sarees. Basically, pattu means in regional Tamil language silk. Korvai is one of the complex technique used to weave Kanchipuram silk sarees, not all sarees which are woven in Kanchipuram are Korvai.

Summer is nearing, how about floating in air with breathtaking saree, looking for what to wear, here is the beautiful handwoven 'Kota Doria' are the best for the reason, when I wore Kota saree, It feels like, I'm floating, transparent, featherweight, soft, airy, light textured, such a beauty it is, these cosy sarees are very fine weaves and weigh very less and comfort, these gorgeous sarees are handwoven on 'traditional pit looms' and drape gracefully. This village called 'Kaithoon' twenty kms from Kota city, the weavers are located in Kota district of South east 'Rajasthan'. Kota Sarees are primarily made in Kota, Rajasthan, Mau, Uttar Pradesh as well.

A Coastal town, situated in Prakasam District in the state of Andhra Pradesh called Chirala, this town was also known as 'Kshirapuri'. Chirala town is renowned for handlooms. Years passed by, the town gained popularity for its excellent handloom sarees known for the softness and durability. The name Chirala means Saree in Telugu and so eventually the name of the town got transformed to Chirala. Main occupation of this village is handloom weaving and paddy cultivation.

Living in the world of fast-moving fashion, where designer Ruffle Sarees takes a runway show stopper pace, I see the 'contrast' the traditional and the modern world. Khadi is also known as khaddar, it is Handwoven natural fiber cloth, this cloth is usually woven from cotton and may also include wool, silk, which are all spun into yarn on a spinning wheel called charkha. This fine spun khadi is known for softness, when one starts to wear this saree definitely will be hooked on this fabric, no matter its summer or spring, Khadi is not only used as fashion statement these days but are often seen as markers of particular communities, groups and towns.

One of my vintage collection from Tamil Nadu is Kanchipuram Double Border Saree, it is a Beige color as you can see in the portrait and do check out for an overall look of the saree in my video of as well. It has that charm of subtle look yet gives that opulence. In a nutshell, I can say it's the best match for your temple wedding( muhurtham silk saree) gives that complete finish of that traditional look and feel with antique temple jewelry. This is my one of my wedding saree as well which I had shopped for which has a 'Double Border' the first border is bottle green in color with thread work and the second border is a blend of Zari( Gold, deep maroon and bottle green) as well. This saree credit goes to my dad since he selected this wonderful piece of art. When I go deep about this saree, the base of the saree has the emboss stamp a design(beige color) with leaf and other elements as well and when it comes to the pallu area it has Swan's bird motifs.

It was used on everyday apparels. Kasuti Embroidery is been given Geographical Indications, Karnataka Handicrafts Development Corporation(KHDC) holds a Geographical Indications(GI) protection for Kasuti embroidery.
